“Let me ask you, would you want to play for the Edmonton Oilers, for example?” [laughter] “Let me tell you that when you have a choice and you have something to choose from, you always want to play for a good team, compete for medals and such. I will speak for myself, but the situation was such that I had no choice of a good team to play for and to play at the high level. To me it was very important to play for a good team, to try to win.”
-Evgeni Nabokov on why he decided to play for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL. More from Dmitry Chesnokov of PuckDaddy.

I’m almost starting to feel bad for Edmonton with the ripping they’ve been getting. Almost.

This is why a “good” NHL team isn’t signing you, sir.

He’s not going to be picking on Edmonton after those East Coast swings to Novosibirsk, Nizhnekamsk and Khabarovsk.

Doesn’t really matter what anyone says, fact is that Nabokov just came out and admitted that given the choice between Edmonton (NHL Siberia) and the KHL (the ACTUAL Siberia where people don’t get paid and sometimes die)... he chose the KHL.
This may be Edmonton’s most-embarrassing moment yet.

This just proves my theory: Nabby’s an ass.

You all should know by now the Sharks playoff exits are a team effort. All he’s saying is he wants to play for a winning team, which is true for every hockey player. I don’t see anything wrong with picking on the Oil, they were ridiculously bad last year.

Well, as bad as they may have been they still have a chance, albeit a small one, of winning the most prized trophy in hockey and that’s not something that Nabakov can say about the team he chose to play for.
The quote might have held some weight if it didn’t come from a guy who had been bounced from his team and had very few options.
Who even knows that he was even offered a contract by the Oil?
