According to that blog, he ran into Jiromir Jagr…

Every sporting venue should have a defibrillator.

How sad.

Truly sad.

Does anyone know if he had heart problems in the past?  I’m wondering whether this may have played a role in his drop at the draft.

Wow...the Jagr thing is what gets me the most. Jagr was looking forward to working with him in the KHL and prepping him for the NHL, and the irony of it all is that the two collided. Reoprts say that a Jagr in tears tried to revive him on-ice. A big loss for the hockey world as some said he had Kovalev-like potential. Sad day.

How terrible for him, his family and teammates! May god’s love be with them ! I am watching the Islander Buffalo game and they have said they just learned of the new minutes ago.

PRC, I think his drop in the draft had to do with the fear of the transfer agreement and if it could be reached. The Rangers had hoped to have him in the NHL next season. They thought he was quite the steal.

I was aware of this… I’m just wondering whether there may have been something that came up during the combine or the medical testing done by teams that wasn’t divulged to the public at the time.

Shocking.  Unbelievable.

This guy had a tremendously bright future ahead of him, and for something like this to happen- just wow.

Heartfelt condolences to his family, teammates, and the Rangers organization.  What a terrible tragedy.

such a tragedy… I read that the cause of his death is Commotio cordis, which is a sudden cardiac arrest… And how terrible that they didn’t even try to do CPR… or the defibrillator is not working…

RIP Alexei…

and Condolence to his family…

He also apparently had a condition called Chronic Ischemia… which is something to do with oxygen supply and bloodflow to the heart.  (from ESPN)

The Cherepanov and Bourdon accidents are tragic, for their families and the NHL. The question is whether these accidents can be prevented in the future. Maybe better testing on the NHL’s part for the Cherepanov situation and educating the players (youngsters) on dangerous activities such as motorcycle etc… Just seems like more should/can be done to prevent tragedies like these from occuring in the future.... and it is ridiculous how the Rangers are seeking another pick to replace Cherepanov. My thoughts. http://jib-sports-culture.blogspot.com/2008/11/tragedy-for-promising-rookies.html
