from the CBC,
Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson says he is showing his love for his sister in Sweden by becoming the face of a new campaign to end the stigma associated with mental illness.
Alfredsson spoke about his younger sister Cecelia, who suffers from generalized anxiety disorder, after helping the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health kick off the “You know who I am” campaign Wednesday.

How awesome is that.
I’m not surprised that at first he wasn’t understanding of his sister’s problems, either - mental illness is such a difficult thing to deal with in a family because you can’t just “fix it” like a physical illness, and it’s hard to know what to say to someone who is affected.

anxiety disorder is one of the worst forms of mental illness because it is one of the least recognizable. Most people think its like a temporary depression, and most doctors don’t know how to treat it, because they often mis-diagnose it. These charities and campaigns are of the things that make our sport great.
