from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,
“I don’t know exactly how long (he’ll be out), but it will be a few weeks anyway,” said Alfredsson, who was wearing a brace on his left shoulder. “We will probably see the doctor (today), do an X-ray and see what the damage is. I expect at least a few weeks.”
Senators coach Cory Clouston tried to hide his displeasure.
“I just don’t want to comment. I want to look at it again. I don’t really want to say anything more ... to say if it was a penalty or not. We did that and we were called whiners.”
more and you can watch the hit if you missed it earlier…

I don’t blame Clouston for questioning it, no one likes to see their captain get hurt, but once he sees the tape I suspect there won’t be any mor whining.
The puck was there, Adams did not target Alfredsson’s head, he led with a shoulder and did not leave his feet. That’s every element of a clean hit.
As long as hockey remains a contact sport that type of play will occasionally and unnfortunately result in an injury.

All due respect this was worse than Ruutu’s hit on Kaleta. Alfredsson is engaged with Gonchar and Adams comes in and delivers a hit to the head of Alfredsson. He made no attempt to hit Alfredsson anywhere but the head.
Yes, Adams hit him with the shoulder...but it was a DIRECT shot to the head and in that situation where a player is engaged with another player, there is a clear argument for intent to injure.

It was a shoulder to shoulder hit. His shoulder was injured and not his head. That is as clean a hit as you will ever see
