All This Patrick Roy Talk

from Terry Frei of the Denver Post,
The Avalanche’s Patrick Roy saga is on the verge of becoming ridiculous. The Colorado front office’s cone of silence is characteristic and often has helped team president Pierre Lacroix get things done. Yet in this case, in light of all the maneuvering, speculation and leaks, it’s impractical.
I spoke with Roy on the phone briefly Monday, but he politely said he would prefer not to comment further on the record about reports he has a standing offer to be the new Avs coach and possibly general manager. Translation: The Avalanche almost certainly has asked him not to talk about his dealings with Colorado.
The problems now are about perceptions. Whether fair or not, the Roy drama is coming off as gamesmanship, including factors such as: a) Roy possibly playing off the Avs and the Montreal Canadiens, hoping to get an offer from his home-province franchise; b) the Avalanche trying to convince Roy that the franchise’s competitive situation isn’t hopeless; c) even the postponement of reaching and announcing a deal because of the desire to stay in the background until the Nuggets’ playoff run is over.

Put me into the cynic camp on this one.
The way the story is leaking out, it all seems to be coming from the Roy camp and the bits and pieces indicate that it includes everything he wants: complete control of the bench and who works it with him along with complete control of the personnel decisions.
