Todd McLellan took part in a tele-donference today and Sharkspage has the transcript,
[Q] How do you go into facing the Detroit Red Wings for the first time Thursday? Have you talked with Mike (Babcock) at all about it?
[TM] We haven’t talked about the game in particular, we talk quite often about how the families are doing. The game in particular, we have not addressed it one bit. We will approach it like any other game. Head coaches will always tell you that. We are going to prepare for the things they do well, and they are going to counter against us. Probably more will be made out of it by the media than will be made out of it by the two coaches, because it will be just another night and we have to do the best we can do for our team.

I’m with OTC on this….and more…
From ‘They’re back….maybe not’
I read this week that the Wings have the
luxury of 2 starting netminders once again.
If that is true,
there must be a luxury tax hidden in there somewhere,
the Team sv % of .891 indicates that if we have 2 starters,
they must be left standing naked in the crease too often.

Well, that’s the way it has been. But that’s not the way it’s been this year. IMHO, the one thing the Wings are lacking this year is the determination needed to get loose pucks. Pavel, Hoss and Homer have that passion (especially Homer), but I just don’t see it yet from the other lines. The fouth line had it when Helm was up for a couple of games, but it’s not there now.
The other glaring difference between this season and the end of last season is the play of Nick Senior & Nick Junior. Senior seems to be having trouble acclimating to the visor and Junior, well, Junior seems to have forgotten how to hit people. And don’t think for a second that McLellan hasn’t picked up on all of those things and passed it along to his troops.
The Wings have one more game in which to get their act together before they face Babs Jr. and the Sharks. Let’s hope they use that game to rediscover their passion for defense and puck-hounding. If they don’t, they’ll end up totally embarrassed by San Jose.
