Another Paper Goes Down

The Rocky Mountain News said it won’t publish anymore after Friday’s editions. After nearly 150 years, through the Civil War and two other World Wars, the News couldn’t survive a geek named Craig Newmark….
Rick Sadowski has been my primary competitor the last 14 years on the Avalanche beat. I wanted nothing more than to make Rick’s life miserable, and he wanted nothing more than to make mine miserable. We both succeeded on more than one occasion I think it’s fair to say.
But like anybody in a competition, while I wanted to “win”, I don’t think I wanted it to come to this. Rick has a family, whom I have met and even socialized with on several occasions. So, I feel for him and them tonight.

Covering the Avalanche/Devils game now, probably the final one of my career.
No bailout for the newspaper industry.

seems strange that a city with a decreasing size like detroit can keep two papers afloat
