SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks and Comcast SportsNet Bay Area announced today that they have reached an agreement to have the local blackout lifted for nine 2008-09 San Jose Sharks games that are not scheduled to be televised on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

The move will allow those local hockey fans who subscribe to the Center Ice hockey package to view all of the Sharks 82 regular season games on television.

Looks like a trend may be developing- via a press release from the Phoenix Coyotes…

Phoenix Coyotes Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Michael Bucek announced today that the National Hockey League has lifted the “NHL Center Ice” blackout in the Phoenix region for 19 Coyotes games.  Coyotes fans that subscribe to the “NHL Center Ice” package will now be able to see 78 of the Coyotes’ 80 remaining games on television this season

Lucky. A nice step forwards. I’ll cheer louder when I can see all 82 Sens games here in Waterloo, but I’m not sure when that press release will come, if ever. Still, I’ll celebrate in spirit for those fortunate fans in San Jose and Phoenix.

If a Hockey Game is shown on Center Ice and nobody in Phoenix watches it.. did it really happen?

In Washington, all but 2 games are televised.  We can thank the Versus exclusivity on Tuesday nights for the 2 games that are not on TV.

I sure hope Columbus adopts this practice. I find it incredible that in this day and age I can pay for ALL the games, yet get blacked out of a game thats NOT being shown locally. Is there some way a letter writing campaign can get this moving in all affected locales.

I find it incredible that people still think that no one watches hockey down here in Phoenix.

In Raleigh you can watch Carolina games on Center Ice if FSN isn’t carrying the game. Even though the cable guide says Blackout it’s not blacked out.  I hope this is still the case this year!
