from TSN,
An arbitrator has awarded New York Rangers centre Sean Avery a $1.9-million salary for next season.
Avery, 27, was seeking $2.6-million in arbitration after scoring 48 points in 84 games last season with the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers.
added 1:27pm, via the NY Rangers,
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has signed restricted free agent forward Sean Avery.
“We are pleased to have Sean under contract and are looking forward to him returning with the same passion and enthusiasm he brought to our team last year,” stated Sather. “He is a terrific competitor, who we expect to play a significant role in a successful season.”

scold me if you must but i think he would of been an awesome addition to the sabres, not that there was any talk of them wanting him but it would of been great nonetheless
Call me crazy, call him crap, just dont call me late for dinner
seriously though..he could have helped. so could hope and prayer. oh well

Does the $1.9 million sober up or rile up Avery? If it sobers him up he can add sandpaper to the Rangers line-up, if it riles him up it will lead to more undisciplined penalties.

Exactly hockey1919, I think Avery and Sather need to go public and clear the air on what was said during arbitration time.
If not, there will always be that question!

Is “terrific competitor” Sather-speak for “big a$$hole”?

It’s amazing that Avery was such a big baby about what was said about him, when he says much worse stuff on the ice and to the press.

Avery is one of those guys you hate unless he plays for your team. I’m happy my team has resigned him, I just hope there are no hard feelings over the arbitration postering.

I will say it again…Sean Avery sucks. HARD.
I do not know what Elisha Cuthbert sees in him.
I do not know what Glen Sather sees in him.
I don’t get it. I am all for players srumming around on the ice and mixing it up. But Sean Avery is spineless, he doesn’t back his talk up with action, and he is a distraction on and off the ice. He’s a total b!tch.
If Colin Campbell came to me one day and said, “John, you are head disciplinarian for the next 10 minutes, do whatever you want.” I would take the first minute and suspend Sean Avery for the remainder of his natural life for being a total d-bag, and then sit on my hands for the next nine minutes knowing that I had done more for the game of hockey in that time than Gary Bettman has in the last 15 years.
$1.9 million is a total rip-off. Sather should have saved his money.
