from usahockey,
Chris Crenshaw remembers the moment he realized that ice hockey had made it big in Alabama.
The director of the Huntsville Silver Sticks had taken some of his players to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Since Alabama isn’t known much for its hockey tradition, Crenshaw was somewhat stunned when he looked up and saw a puck with the logo of the University of Alabama-Huntsville, one of the few colleges in the South that plays Division I hockey.
A few minutes later, at another display, he and his players saw a UAH jersey. It symbolized how important the game is in Alabama, a state that has never hosted an NHL game, but still is home to an avid hockey fan base.
