Avs Confident Going Into The Season

from Rick Sadowski of the Rocky Mountain News,
Based on predictions by a number of hockey pundits, the Avalanche’s chances of even qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2008-09 are pretty much non-existent….
“They said that last year, too,” forward Ian Laperriere said. “OK, let’s not play. Who won the Cup? They said Detroit again? We’ll throw the season away and not play then. Those magazines, it drives me nuts. So let’s not play. Let’s go home.
“We’ve got a good mix of young guys, older guys, grit and skill. Not everybody can be like Detroit. But with the skill and the mix of grit, we’re the closest thing to a team that can beat a team like Detroit.”

The Wings don’t play their first game for almost three weeks, and they’ve already gotten into the heads of other NHL players? Call it a season, wrap it up. May as well not play. They should just go home.

That division is not as strong as it has been in the past. If Colorado is healthy and gets decent goaltending, they might have a shot at the playoffs. If I remember correctly, injuries decimated the roster last season.
(And they have to ignore the siren call of the Forsberg. He isn’t worth it anymore, no matter how good he looks in the 14 seconds before his foot/ankle/groin starts acting up again. Just say no to Forsberg!)

And with a stellar duo like Raycroft and Budaj, why wouldn’t they get decent goaltending?

Sorry, Shane, but it was Lady Laperriere who brought up the Wings. We were just here to reinforce his point.
