DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that defenseman Adam Foote has been named team captain for the 2009-10 season.
“I’m honored to be named Avalanche captain,” said Foote. “I’ve been with this franchise for the majority of my career and I know what the standards are here. I look forward to the challenge of leading this team, starting with training camp and heading into the regular season.”

Stastny would do well with one more year to work on his game. He did get an A along with Hejduk.
Foote was the logical choice. He has experience being a captain, and he gives his heart and soul to the team. He is also the “elder statesman” as far as the Avs go. The last Quebec connection on the team and the only remaining member of both cup teams.

I’d bet Columbus has something to say about that. I have no idea who would be a better choice, but Foote’s history doesn’t exactly say “leader” to me.

.
Well, not in Columbus.
But the difference is, he wants to and actually likes playing for the Avs.
His heart has always been with this franchise. I don’t think he wanted to go to the BJs, but thems the breaks.
Not to mention the honor of following Joe Sakic as captain.

He signed a multi-million, multi-year free agency contract to play for the Blue Jackets. His heart might have stayed in Colorado but his bank accounts went to Columbus. As for his “leadership”, any that he might have had he took that with him when he jumped on a chartered jet in Columbus.
