Babcock’s Day with the Cup

imageFrom the Stanley Cup Blog at NHL.com,

Just after 9 a.m. that morning, Mike and Maureen Babcock met the plane at the Saskatoon airport and received the Stanley Cup.

There are two things indigenous to Canada – hockey and Tim Hortons coffee, and the Babcock’s merged the two by taking the Stanley Cup to a local Tim Hortons. The only things that could make the morning more Canadian would be if a Mountie carrying a beaver had held the door open for them!

and lots more on Babcock and his face-time with Stanley.

Pretty cool to know Coach Babcock is a bit of a Waterman.  Maybe he, Chelios, and Laird Hamilton (surfer god) can get together in Malibu and do some surfing or paddleboarding.

Babs is also a big shooter…

The hockey world is lucky he didn’t use the cup in some “William Tell” stunt with a shotgun.

On further thought, maybe we SHOULD be worried when “William Tell” himself gets the cup over in Sweden!

Bowman: Well, I can tell you, Bob, is that, even prior to the deadline, when he was a free agent, and everybody’s always trying to keep up with everybody else, and there was a lot of big talk about you know, free agent, Sundin was one, would Toronto trade him, and Hossa was there, but the guy that probably knows the most about Hossa is Jimmy Nill, because he was involved with Ottawa when Hossa was drafted, and then Hossa went out West, and Mike Babcock knows a lot about him, too, because Mike told me after the handshake, after the last game, he said to Hossa, you know, “Why don’t you come to Detroit,” and he said the response he got from Hossa was, he said, “I like Detroit!”
