Bad Time For Trades

from the CP via the Sporting News,
It’s looking more and more like Heatley picked a bad time to demand a trade.
Murray was unable to find a deal that made sense and it’s not necessarily going to happen soon given that Heatley is owed $7.5 million in each of the next five seasons. Murray didn’t sound confident.
“There’ll be a little further discussions,” Murray said. “I don’t know how much. We’re certainly going to, I guess, attempt to accommodate (his request). ...
“I would think we’ll have a little further discussions and see what happens.”
That’s the same game plan Brian Burke has elected to take with Kaberle. He’s only going to move the smooth-skating defenseman if someone “blows his doors off” in the coming few weeks.

...he would get cleanly passed by anyone so galactically moronic to actually give something up to get that insipid deal now that we’ve all seen how horrendous it is.
You have to quit being such a fence-sitter, HD. Take a stand on this issue fer gods sake.

Actually try and think for once. NYR could trade 2 roster players for Heater. One would either have to be Gomez or Drury who are $7m per season and a younger player making around $1.5 - $2m. Ottawa gets someone who wants to play there plus a top 6 and a young stud. The big apple gets a 50 goal scorer

I have no doubt Glen Sather would make a move like that… but as of today he is already the dumbest GM in the NHL, so he has very little left to prove.
Ottawa’s problem is that they actually think they should be getting something back for Heatley, like this is 2001 or something and that’s how things work anymore.
They should just give him away, as in… for nothing. Here, if you want him and his contract, our bad… just take him. That’s the only way I see any non-idiot GM making a move for Heatley, and even then it’s a long shot at best. If Ottawa is able to get out from under that cap-crushing deal it would be a huge win for them.
The guy isn’t exactly establishing himself as a great off-ice guy, either. 7.5 for a bunch of years for a dude with fluxuating performance and questionable character? Uh, no. I don’t think too many GMs are going to want to hitch themselves up to that.

IMO, the deal killer is the $4M bonus Heatley gets on July 1st. Team that has at that time is stuck with paying the money.
It would be awfully tough for the Sens to trade him after saying here is your money Dany, see you.

No one wants to play in ottawa…really. “Oh let me choose…San Jose, beautiful every friggin day, or…Ottawa, colder than Godzilla’s balls most of the time I have to be there…” If you think ottawa’s going to dump 7.5 mil. of salary for 10 mil of salary then you’re probably in denial.
The Heatley you’re going to get is lazy, overpaid, selfish, and probably perfect for a team like the Flyers, Rangers, Kings, Canucks, Sharks, etc. However…I can tell you this…you can’t build a team with a guy like this, because he’s not a team player. You won’t win a stanley cup with a guy like this because he won’t show up playoff time.

The GM that trades for Dany Heatley is the dumbest GM in the NHL. Bar none.
The second dumbest GM in the NHL was the guy that signed him to that stupid deal (Muckler, who is now a senior consultant to the astoundingly-successful Coyotes… shocker), but he would get cleanly passed by anyone so galactically moronic to actually give something up to get that insipid deal now that we’ve all seen how horrendous it is.
