Balsillie Still Looking For An NHL Team

from Rick Westhead of the Toronto Star,
Billionaire Jim Balsillie contacted the owner of the Buffalo Sabres about buying the team earlier this season, a sign the Research in Motion co-founder is still seeking an NHL franchise after two previous high-profile flameouts.
Balsillie phoned Sabres owner Tom Golisano around Christmas, according to a source familiar with the matter. Golisano indicated he would be open to selling the club – but not if Balsillie intended to relocate it.

I’m sorry, what? Our late owner was not John McCallum.

Balsille should wait for league expansion.
I pray that doesn’t happen anytime in the near future. The talent in this league is already diluted enough. If anything, the league needs contraction. While I would feel bad for the people losing their teams, from a technical perspective (as opposed to a marketing one), contraction would be great for the league. I am from South Carolina, so don’t go and say I am biased in what I am about to say, but I think Balsille should look into purchasing the Panthers from Alan Cohen and moving them to Canada. No matter how much others and I want it to, NHL hockey is not going to have really strong, consistent support there for a very long time, if ever.

Wow, we can’t have a Balsillie story with a Preds mention. See ya, Balsillie! Your moronic actions has been the best thing to ever happen to the Preds.

Balsille isn’t going to find a team at this point. He’s given himself a bad rep, and maybe only 2 teams or markets he would actually have any hope of relocating. And since he’s so hung up on relocating, he may as well forget it…
