No, please no, please say it isn’t true.

I think Bert will be a great fit with Detroit. Once he’s healthy he will slide into Shanny’s old role!

yeah buddy! I’d give a few weeks off and get him in beautiful shape for the playoffs. Detroit likes to make sure their players are “over-ready” and there is no need to rush him. HIGH FIVE KENNY

I’m disgusted and heart broken.

This will either be very very good… or horribly horribly bad.
I hate trades like that.

LOL @ anyone who doesnt like this trade.
The best power forward in the league when he is on his game, and ready to go right now.
Awesome trade, I congratulate Ken Holland on a great, fantastic addition.

It’s a bold move and will hopefully create a buzz in Hockeytown. I still feel the Red Wings would have beaten Edmonton in the first round last year with Dominik Hasek instead of Manny Legace. We all know that Shanny, for all he did during his time in the Motor City, disappeared for dreadfully long stretches in the playoffs. If Bertuzzi is healthy, this is a huge addition. With Dom between the pipes, this is a dangerous team.

If healthy is a HUGE if, though. Back surgery is a big deal, and he isn’t playing yet.
I agree with Hockeyinhd--extremely good or extremely bad. Yuck.

I agree with ph, this is a no lose trade because we give up a draft choice (an unknown quantity) and another unknown quantity in a junior prospect (Shawn Matais).

TSN- A bunch of conditions for the trade If Wings sign Bert, a 2nd rounder, if they make the final four and Bert meets some crtieria, maybe a first..
Just wait for the details from TSN

Wings didn’t give up much for the risk. Good job Kenny. Now at least Kenny will have some redemption even though I think he’s still building for next year. C’mon Kenny, one more trade, get Jamal Mayers, dump Maltby.

If he’s healthy, he’s got 19 games to get into form and hit the playoffs without the grind of a full season.
If he’s not, shades of Uwe Krupp.

Any chance Bert gets in Chicago on time to play tonight?
Posted by Brian on 02/27/07 at 02:44 PM ET
Wow, is he even going to be ready to skate in the next few weeks? He has not even returned for a game yet.

Not thrilled about this. A thug on the bench or in the pressbox is as good as no thug at all. I have been wrong before, but still think a Nolan, Smolinski or Perrault would have been a better fit. Big Bert is UFA this year and doubt the wings can afford to sign him (YAY). Holland’s experiment is only for this years playoffs, which is looking like 2 rounds, at best for the Wings.

He has been travelling with the Panthers the last couple weeks and practising with them as well.

This is a steal. Pending the announcement of the conditions, even if Bertuzzi is a disaster and gets hurt, they basically will have given up only their 13th ranked prospect for the risk. Very good deal.

Per Mlive,
Florida will get either a first-, a second- or a third-round pick in 2007 based on Bertuzzi’s performance and the success of the team. Florida will also get a second-round pick in 2008 if Bertuzzi, an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, re-signs with Detroit.

Came in here to say what Steve already pointed out.
The next Uwe Krupp.
I just think this was a bad idea. The Wings weren’t going anywhere in the playoffs this year anyway, unless Holland could grab 3 or 4 big time players. I just can’t see this team beating the likes of Nashville, Sharks, or Ducks to get the Cup finals, let alone a team like the Sabres for the Cup. I just think it was a waste to trade picks and prospects when they are more than one or two pieces away anyway.
Just my 2 cents.

I’m not a fan of the man, and I definitely would have preferred another forward like Zubrus, but Bertuzzi’s a low-risk, high-reward move.
If his back holds up, he fulfills every need the Red Wings wanted to address up front--size, strength, physical bite, tenacious forechecking and tremendous goal-scoring ability. He’s got enough baggage to fill a semi truck, but for the return--a Maltby-like forward in Matthias, and conditional picks--it’s too good a deal to pass up.
It’s obviously somewhat reactionary, but it’s a smart move. Holland has maximized his return for the assets given up--Williams, Matthias, and conditional picks for a 25-goal scorer with some red flags in Calder, and a 40-goal scorer with red flags in Bertuzzi.

Tim, I would’ve agreed with you before I saw the Red Wings go into the playoffs multiple seasons in a row in the role that the Sabres and Preds are in, only to lose to the teams that so clearly had no chance.
I know there isn’t much logic to that, but hey, it just show that they play the games to decide, and frankly, even if this backfires, they’re giving up their 13th ranked prospect and a 3rd rounder in one of the drafts that pundits have labeled as fairly week. That’s nothing.
And the great thing is that if he resigns, the team has lots of success, and they have to give up that 1st rounder, it will be in this suppossedly weaker draft instead of the ‘08 or ‘09 drafts.

This will definitely renew the Avs / Wings rivalry. They obviously loathe him here in Denver. The best D man in Wings history, Nick Lidstrom, isn’t going to play forever. The Wings can win the cup this year and Kenny needs to leverage his approach rebuilding with that in mind. I don’t like Bertuzzi, but I like this move for the Wings. My guess is they will be able to resign him for 3-4 mil per year.

Huge trade for Detroit.
Bertuzzi for absolutely nothing. Huge win.
Might revive the Avs-Wings rivalry. Especially now that the Wings sheep will go from considering Bertuzzi a useless cheap shot artist to Moore “deserving what he got” and wanting Tooz to do it again to another Avs player.
Holland is a complete imbecile, but he definitely did the right thing on this one. And our sack-of-spit GM can’t seem to make a trade that doesn’t involve an enforcer. What a moron.

Another cheapie at Wings fans. You just keep making my point for me.
Posted by Nathan on 02/27/07 at 06:22 PM ET
I’d have to. You are incapable of making a coherent point on your own.
