Big Boys Go At It

Colton Orr of the Rangers knocked out Todd Fedoruk of the Flyers with a hard right in the opening two minutes of tonight’s game.
Fedoruk crumpled to the ice, received medical attention and a neck brace was applied.  Todd was talking as he was being wheeled off the ice on a stretcher.
First report is he will have x-rays at MSG, not the hospital.

added 7:57pm, Now being taken to a local hospital after x-rays at MSG.

Considering Fedoruk’s already had his face broken this year, was it really all that wise for him to be getting into a dust-up with another guy who’s injured people in fights in the past?

Fedoruk’s all heart-and-soul, not necessarily the king of logic.

Still, first Boogard, now this?  I’m a bit depressed, as I really like TF.

Get better, man.

Last time these 2 teams met, Shanahan was taken off on a stretcher.  This time, it was Fedoruk.  I’m nervous to see what happens during their next game!

via the AP,

“Todd is doing fine,” Rangers neurologist Claude Macaluso said in a statement. “He is awake. He is having some problems with short-term memory, but other than that he is great. There are no neurological problems at all.
“We scanned him basically from the top of his head right down to the bottom of his neck. There are no fractures. (His) brain looks fine. He is going to be fine.”

Fedoruk has a bad habit of taking on heavyweights that he doesn’t stand a chance against.

I will give him a lot of credit though. He stands up for himself and his team, regardless of who comes for him. He isn’t afraid of anyone, even if he goes against some of these guys that are way out of his league (Boogaard/Orr). He’s a far cry from the Claude Lemieuxs that we have all over the league now thanks to the new rules.

You hate to see a guy that doesn’t back down from ANY challenger get hurt so bad like this twice in one year. I suppose he knew the risks though. Hopefully he will be able to recover and give himself a chance to choose retirement so he can watch his kids grow up.

Of course more important then the fight was that the Rangers dusted the Flyers 5-0.
