Big Hit On Kostitsyn

from the CP via TSN,

A nasty hit on Andrei Kostitsyn opened the door for Georges Laraque to show why the Montreal Canadiens went looking for an enforcer last summer.

Laraque was front and centre in a rough and chippy second period as the Canadiens downed the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 on two goals from Alex Tanguay and a goal and two assists from Saku Koivu on Saturday night, although they look to have lost their gifted left winger Kostitsyn for an undetermined period.

“Whether it was cheap hit or not, when one of your best players gets knocked out like that, you’re not going to say it’s OK - you want to respond to it,” said Laraque.

Forearm to the head.  I say dirty.

Great hit! You hate to see a guy go down like that, but it was still a great hit.  Whenever someone gets hurt, it’s going to be controversial though.

Unfortunate injury, but the hit looked okay to me.

The guy got his arms up and clocked Kostitsyn in the head. That’s just dirty and totally uncalled for.

That is such a dirty hit. The defenseman’s hands pushed Kostitsyn’s head into the glass. If his hands were down at all (where they should be), then Andrei would never have gotten hurt. Cheap!

I thought it was a clean hit too but take a look at the left side of Kostitsyn’s face (eye area). You can tell it was a complete head shot (slo-mo review reveals the same) and definitely a dirty play.

im a diehard habs fan and a amateur defenseman and i have to say that check was legal and clean. nasty, yeah, but clean.
still, sauer has to know he will need to man up and duke it out with challenger ... even if it is someone he thinks is out of his league like laraque.
