What, now?  Is Tallon a genius, or are the Les/Brett co-GMs dumb?

Hey, Uncle Cliff, can you get the Leafs one of these??

This is a move of “Burkian” proportions.

It’s one sly move, isn’t it?  And not something you see every day, that’s for sure. smile

Nifty Move...How long before the NHL makes a move like that illegal?

So now what?
Apparently he did not make the team.
Will Dallas put him on waivers again, or will they waive someone else?
This was really a screw up by Dallas.

Wow. That’s kind of funny. I give big props to Chicago. It would be great if they put him on waivers again and Chicago repeated.

Both sites show Dallas as picking up Janic, Blackhawks signed him in July and Dallas picked him off waivers on Oct. 2. Nothing about a draft pick.

Hi Ralph,

I know it’s bizarrely confusing, but the press release I’ve posted above is one I received this evening and it’s dated October 8th.  I realize it doesn’t appear on either the Hawks or the Stars website at this point.

So the initial transaction between them with Janik appears to have been October 2nd, as you’ve seen at both websites.  Thus—unless the latest Blackhawks press release proves to be incorrect (and I’ve received no notification as yet that it was)—Janik appears to be turning into a human cannonball between these two teams. smile

I think when you trade for a player (as apparently dallas has) the team getting the player has the option of putting that player in the minors without having to waive him. Is this true? Im not at all certain on this.

It could be a sly move by chicago, but really it is probably the case that chicago picked up janik off waivers because they actually wanted him, and Dallas said look, here’s a freebie draft pick, can we just have him back (rather than Tallon using his guile in picking up Janik and holding Dallas hostage).

The waiver and re-entry rules are the parts of the CBA that I don’t like.  Things like this and when you call up someone who has a contract over 100,000 they have to go through entry waivers, they just tick me off.

I suggest that Dallas knew exactly what it was doing. In previous news reports when Janik was waived, it was stated explicitly by the Stars that “Janik was expected to remain with the team” but nobody could really say how.

In addition, Doug Janik is on waivers. I’m not sure why, but the people I have talked to expect him to remain with the team.

I think Dallas basically coordinated this move with Chicago ahead of time in order to beat the waiver system, and this is how they were sure Janik would stay in the system.

They probably approached Tallon and said, “how would you like a conditional pick? All you have to do is pick up Janik off the waiver wire and trade him back to us...”

You may think Brett Hull is a buffoon, but Les Jackson is a shrewd guy. And neither of them is particularly concerned with what a bunch of hockey bloggers and commenters think of them… smile
