Blackhawks Targeting Nylander

from Ken Campbell of the Hockey News,

The Blackhawks are trying to clear salary cap space by getting rid of Khabibulin and insiders say the player they’re targeting now is Washington Capitals center Michael Nylander, who has three years left on his contract with a salary cap hit of $4.875 million.

Sources say the Blackhawks have already made two serious offers to the Capitals for Nylander and believe he would be a good candidate to replace Robert Lang and play with oft-injured Martin Havlat.

more and some Luke Schenn discussion too.

When the news hit that the Blackhawks had waived Khabibulin, I saw some comments to the effect that Dale Tallon didn’t know what he was doing; he was a liar for originally saying they would keep Khabibulin, then waiving him; etc; etc.; etc. A few people also said they hoped Scotty Bowman’s influence would soon start to take effect. Well, if you can’t see Scotty’s fingerprints all over the whole place now, you better call in CSI.

Do the insiders have any insight on Nylander waiving his no-movement clause?

He has a NO MOVEMENT clause.  Why is that little tidbit always left out of there “rumor” writings.

The kicker is here that guys won’t want to come and play here after the Khabibulin stay….think about it.  If you’re a veteran and come here to sign a long term deal and then out of no where they bring in someone to fill your roll wouldn’t you, the FA, have mixed emotions about playing in that situation.  Khabibulin has a Stanley Cup ring and Huet hasn’t played more than 45+ games in a season as of yet…while he was fantastic for the Caps in the stretch run last year there are still some question marks I think…..Plus the Blackhawks are going to have to sign both Kane and Toews in two off seasons from now.  Should be interesting.  Just hope they don’t blow up this young up and coming team.
