Blame The NHL Owners & League For The Kelly Mess

from Adam Proteau of The Hockey News,
People have got this whole story wrong – and I’ve had it up to here (picture me with my hand stretched high above my satellite-sized noggin) with the outrageous amount of player bashing that’s followed Kelly’s dismissal.
I’ve got nothing against Kelly, by far the most humble, progressive and thoroughly decent man ever to hold the PA’s top post. The players may yet come to rue the day they cut him loose.
But how team owners and league brass have evaded any sort of blame for the environment that led to Kelly’s firing is beyond me.

Maybe, Adam, it’s because the NHLPA is not the NHL. That’s… kinda’ the whole point to its existence.
The NHLPA is to blame. Period. End… of… story.

Funny how everything turns into Gary Bettman’s fault. So the players have a collective meltdown and Bettman is to blame for winning the CBA battle (unless they lost, can’t tell from Adam’s take) because he wasn’t nice enough after the victory? Or because stingy owner Jacobs rides in a limo or because Toronto fans are stupid enough to pay more and more to watch a lousy team. Finally, he gets to the point that if Phoenix moved and Bettman got canned for trying to save them all would be good! I never realized how having an innocuous hockey team in the desert could cause so much damage but apparently it does. The only thing Adam left out of this drivel is to blame Bettman for the swine flu and global warming, but then again, I bet Gary went on vacation to Mexico and brought it back with him.
