Blues’ Janssen Fined, But No Suspension

From TSN:

St. Louis Blues forward Cam Janssen has been fined $2,500 for his high hit last night on Zbynek Michalek of the Coyotes, but he will not be suspended.

The incident happened in the first period behind the Phoenix net. Janssen jumped off the ice during a check and got his elbow up on Michalek. No penalty was called on the play.

Here’s video of the hit. Not great quality, but clear enough we can argue about it if you feel we must…

Typical NHL math.

Jump + elbow + headshot + no injury = $2500 fine

J + E + HS + injury = 5 games

J + E+ HS + I + headlines in US media = 30 games

Somewhere....Steve Downie must be going “What gives?” This was almost an exact duplicate of the hit Downie made on Dean McAmmond...when McAmmond was with Ottawa....and it got him 30 games.
Once again...the NHL shoots itself in the foot with a dumb...hypocritical ruling!
