from Lightning Strikes, .
..Lawton, the Lightning’s new vice president of hockey operations, said if the season began today, he would not be happy with the state of Tampa Bay’s blue line.
“No, not yet,” he said. “We have some nice depth and some nice pieces I’m very happy about, but I still don’t think we’re there yet. We still have some work to do.”

To the Tampa Bay management,
Listen, babe, I’ve got a hot deal for ya. We’ve got the Stanley Cup winner of a d-man we’d be willing to send your way. He’s a beast of a guy who blocks shots like they’re marshmallows. And because you’re new at this and all, we’d be willing to let him go for, oh, I don’t know, let’s say your first-round pick next year.
Call me, babe.
Yours truly,
Ken Holland

Wait, Tampa Bay has a blue line? I thought they were going for “The O-Team”: offense and Ollie.
We still have some work to do.
An understatement if I’ve ever heard one.

@ OTC:
Now that’s just mean. Why would you subject Lilja to being coached by Melrose? He may give the puck away a little - okay, a lot - and at the most inopportune times - but he doesn’t deserve that fate.
Besides, they’d certainly be more interested in Samuelsson - he is a forward who plays well defensively, so he’d fill two needs at once!
(Of course, that might require an extra fourth-round pick, since he’s so versatile.)

Tampa’s biggest problem was goaltending then defense. They haven’t seriously addressed either issue yet. That’s funny.

Right...because they don’t have anywhere near enough forwards. Now you’re just being mean.
But I do like the idea of a 1st and a 4th for Sammy. Maybe highlighting his rocket of a shot from the point would clinch the deal.

let’s not overlook their signing of Zenon Kenopka; Jay Feaster’s gotta be the luckiest person in the NHL at the moment.
