Boulerice Gets 25 Games

from the AP via the Globe and Mail,

Philadelphia forward Jesse Boulerice was suspended 25 games by the NHL on Friday for cross-checking Vancouver’s Ryan Kesler across the face, the second Flyer in three weeks to receive a ban of at least 20 games.

Considering what Downie got (which was too much), this sounds about right.

This is terrible, he should have been banned for life.  Check out his history in this Mirtle post.

BTW… they will/should insert Riley Cote and they really haven’t lost anything in all of this.

Cote is better fighter than Boulerice anyway. flyers will release him.

isnt amazing that two longest suspensions where flyers players inwhich the canadian media and canadian team bitched like little girls until they got there way

To Be HOnest, in a league that has made real accountability a joke, that is just the kind of message the Flyers & Boulerice needed to send to place the rest 29 teams on notice

Which is why, if the league truly wants these suspensions to have an impact, it should be ruled that the player cannot be replaced on the roster for the duration of his suspension, and the player’s salary cap hit should remain during the suspension.  Because otherwise, what do the Flyers care right now that Downie and Boulerice have been suspended?

As a Flyers fan, there’s no way I can condone Boulerice’s actions at all and I don’t see what sort of “message” it sent other than he made a bad decision and now the Flyers are paying for it when they still have Downie’s suspension to deal against the salary cap. Kesler may have being a pest but Boulerice could have handled matters with a good, clean hit or by calling Kesler out for a scrap.

Seems fair considering the Downie suspension, and this act involved a stick (which the NHL has generally looked at as a more serious incident).

Flyers going for an entire practice squad of suspended players?

from Pierre LeBrun at Sportsnet,

The NHL won’t tolerate vicious hits to the head.

I was hoping for something in the 25-to-30 game range and Campbell-the league’s disciplinarian--didn’t disappoint.

Enough is enough.

you can do something about this. get rid of instagator rule and let the players police themselves and NONE of this will happen

I think it’s great that FlyersFan has time to post here during filming breaks on “Cavemen.”
