Scottys kid works for the Hawks. That could be one of the several lures on why Bowman bolted. Another is he was offered some major $! Also, Bowman probably felt that his use-services- peaked in Detroit, and felt his obligations were met, and wanted to be part of a up and coming franchise.

Part of me is surprised. The other part of me thinks that if I were him and in the situation where my son had a fight going with bone cancer, and I had an opportunity to be closer to my son all the while being able to continue doing what I love, I’d take it.

I am not pleased either. But I think Nate hit that one on the head.
I live 1500 miles from my father and when he underwent cancer treatment a couple years ago, it was the worst few months I’ve ever dealt with.

I hope this doesn’t mean that his son is doing worse.  :(

Realistically, though, Detroit couldn’t keep every hockey mind around indefinitely.  This is a new challenge for Scotty (with a more functional organization that Toronto), and he probably figured that he was leaving Detroit in good hands and with a bright future.

Good luck to him (most of the time, anyway).  smile

It’s funny think of “functional” and “blackhawks” together...looks like the Hawks are getting their s**t together and Leafs are now annointed the most dysfunctional team in the NHL!

I wonder if part of the deal is that Uncle Mike still gets to call Scotty for advice every week. Yah, probably not.

The most Cups but the most over-rated coach in the history of the game and the biggest ass.  He was in the right place in the right time - a fire hydrant could have coached the Habs to those Cups and he inherited great teams from Bob Johnson in Pittsburgh and and Bryan Murray in Detroit - talk to anyone who played for him and they hate his guts.
