The Lightning on Monday night signed defenseman Dan Boyle to a six-year deal thought to be worth $40-million.

He will be getting more than 6 million with this contract. About 6.5 a year on average.

Sorry, I meant I thought that he could have gotten $7 million from another team. A desperate one…very desperate.

So basically they’re replacing Brad Richards’ handcuff deal with Boyle’s handcuff deal? I guess the Eastern Conference won’t have to worry about the Lightning for a few more years.

Could turn out to be a good signing, especially if the cap rises at least a million or two the next 6 yrs.

Wow, I definitely thought he’d hold out for more than that. He knows he could have gotten at lest $6 million per from another team. That’s a good decision by Boyle. It’ll allow the team to use more money on other players assuming they trade Richards.
