Brad Richards Or Joe Thornton

Each week hockey columnist Scott Morrison and senior hockey writer Tim Wharnsby exchange (mostly) friendly banter on the latest storylines in the NHL.

1. Who would you rather have on your team, Brad Richards or Joe Thornton? Thornton just signed a three-year, $21-million extension with the San Jose Sharks to scratch his name from the potential unrestricted 2011 free-agent list. Richards, in the last year in his deal with the Dallas Stars, remains a candidate for free agency next summer.

WHARNSBY: I’ll take Brad Richards. Jumbo Joe is grand fellow. He has that relaxed surfer-dude persona. He’s extremely friendly. But I’m concerned about his lack of success in the NHL playoffs.

3. Did you agree with the three-game suspension for Phoenix Coyotes’ captain Shane Doan was given for his questionable hit on Anaheim Ducks forward Dan Sexton?

MORRISON: I don’t have a problem with the three games. Some would suggest the bar still isn’t high enough, but I think three is a good number. You have to send a message to the players. There wasn’t an injury on that play, so now if a player does get hurt the number gets even bigger. History has proven the suspensions have to be severe to reduce the number of incidents.

LMAO.  Don’t tell Campbell that…
