Thanks Paul, and whoever made the recording. My video died seconds before the hit. And wow, what a hit.

Karma for his hit on Ben Eager a couple seasons back?

it was a good clean hit! I remember rewinding and watching it a few times on my hdpvr. I loved it. The best part of it was when umberger saw stuart coming, then looked away, then got utterly destroyed. hahah

What hit on Eager are you talking about? Reminds me of the Campbell hit on Umberger. This was a clean hit, but damn, the poor guy.

on my television replay, they show a camera angle that shows the back of umberger as he looks towards stuart, sees him coming, looks away and looks towards stuart again. In no way was he blind sided. He saw him coming from farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr away. It looked more like he saw him, then figured he would ddo some nifty move to get away, but stuart came faster then he expected and he got owned.

It sure looks like he’s concussed after that hit. Hopefully the trainers were confident that he’s okay to play, because playing after something like that is incredible dangerous and multiple concussions can be devastating to a player’s career and to his life after hockey. It’s cool to be tough and all, but it’s just not worth the risk. It’s not like playing with a broken bone.

Uncle Mike on the crush, via Puck rakers blog:
Said Wings coach Mike Babcock: “I couldn’t believe he was out there (two shifts later). My God, he got hit. I haven’t seen a hit like that in a long, long time.”
Anyone else immediately think of Vladimir Konstantinov?

He took the hit then scored 4 minutes later. It takes a Buckeye to show the rest of the CBJ how to play.

Definitely have to give the BJ callers credit for not immediately calling it a dirty hit, even before seeing the replay.
