So exactly who sits when everyone comes back from the doctor? Lilja, please?

Posted by GoCryWolfe  on  02/26  at  04:17 PM

Well, Cory Cross, what you think of that?

Posted by TheFreak  on  02/26  at  04:18 PM

Underwhelming deal, from the Kings point of view. That’s two 1sts, 3 2nds, 3 3rds, and 2 4ths now for ‘08, if I’m not mistaken?

Posted by theartfullodger  on  02/26  at  04:20 PM

Brad Stuart:  “D”, 6’2”, 213 lbs, 28 y/o, #rd overall pick in the 1998 entry draft.
63 g/p, 5 g, 16 a, 21 pts.

good depth move without having to give up anything from the current roster.

Posted by jknight24  on  02/26  at  04:21 PM

oops:  3rd overall pick

Stuart’s UFA this summer, right?  He’s an improvement over several of our current d-men- might be worth looking at re-signing, depending on how he performs the rest of the year and in the playoffs…

But where’s the forward, Kenny?

Posted by mudshark  on  02/26  at  04:23 PM

I think we got the forward ; )

Posted by Phil M  on  02/26  at  04:24 PM

Is this the same Brad Stuart that the Wings continually skated around during the first round of last year’s playoffs?  Big hitter with a heavy shot from the point, a little suspect in his own zone though.

Good luck, Wings.

Posted by dash_pinched  on  02/26  at  04:24 PM

jason smith would have been a better fit for red wings

I agree. I think Kenny just sat back and waited for the very best deal he could get. After the Bertuzzi-Matthais deal last year, I don’t think he was going to give up a prospect for someone who’s a UFA.

The good news is, Stuart could probably be signed next year for under $4M. With the cap going up, that’s doable. So, all in all, it’s a gamble worth taking.

That’s what I was afraid of…

Posted by mudshark  on  02/26  at  04:25 PM

according to James Mirtle, Stuart is UFA at season end.

Ohh and he is a real minute eater too:  From NHL.com:

This moves Lilja down the #6 d-man.  A second pairing of Kronner and Stuart would have lots of grit and two good puck movers.

He can also play on the 2nd PP unit opposite Kronner.  Good move by the Wings.

Stuart > Lebda if he plays up to his potential.

Amen, brother. Anything that gets Sammy off the point is a big plus as far as I’m concerned.

I know it ain’t over til it’s over, but I’m pleasantly surprised Happy’s still around. Now, dammit, Babs, use him.

Posted by OlderThanChelios from Grand Rapids  on  02/26  at  04:53 PM

He’s a tough one right?  Cool.

But isn’t he the guy who cross-checked Hank in the back late last season?

Posted by jay bee  on  02/26  at  04:55 PM

What he said.  And he doesn’t mean fourth line, either!

Make that a Double Amen!!!

Sammy = turnover at the blue-line!!

He ought to be damn happy to be out of the basement dwellar of L.A.!!!!

Right you are, Miss B. I should have made that clearer. I love The Mule, but he belongs on the third line and Happy belongs on the second line. Pleeeeease!

This is strictly a rental. Stuart re-signs with LA when the season ends.

Right...because who wouldn’t want to go back to the worst team in the League? After all, as theartfuldodger pointed out, it’s the “two 1sts, 3 2nds, 3 3rds, and 2 4ths now for ‘08” that LA picked up today that will make them playoff contenders next year.

Now, I’ll grant you that Stuart may not resign with the Wings next year, but you’d better hone your “Hohn”, Mark, because you’re delusional if you think he’s coming back to the “Peasants” next year.

Posted by OlderThanChelios from Grand Rapids  on  02/26  at  07:15 PM

atleast holland isnt shero, or we’d have lost filppula, hudler, ericsson and a 1st rounder

Posted by callmedrw  on  02/26  at  07:51 PM

I am pretty disappointed.  Not sure if this team is better than last year?  I really think we needed that top 6 forward.  We lost Shieds,Markov, Bert and gained Rafy,Drake (/Dmac) and Stuart.  Can this team really go through the Flames, SJ, and Ducks???

Posted by millsz  on  02/26  at  07:52 PM

millsz: yes to going through the Flames. Yes to San Jose.  And we’ll see ‘bout the foul.  IMHO, Rafalski is better than Schnieds, Kronwall towers over Markov and Bert was pretty much a nonfactor. But I do understand Bert is healthier now than what he was for the Wings, but I’m thinkin Mac can offset what Bert did for us.

Bottom line: With all teams healthy (key word), the Wings are the team that should be feared.

There’s more to life than hockey. The Wings tried to sign him last summer and he opted for 1 year deal to play in California. Why would he sign with them this summer?
