from Ian Mendes of Sportsnet,
New head coach Craig Hartsburg hasn’t tipped his hand about potential line combinations for the Ottawa Senators this season but Daniel Alfredsson believes that he will be taken off the top line with Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley - at least to start the season.
“I have an idea that I don’t think we are going to play together to start with,” Alfredsson said Monday, following an informal skating session at the club’s practice facility. “I think we are going to try and split up. That’s the idea I got from Craig and we’ll see how that plays out.”

Actually, two seasons ago, the line was not a full line for most of the season… they’d only play together on PP and in tight games… it worked pretty well then
alfy works just about anywhere you put him… the big issue is finding a winger for Spez-Heat
Of course, there is another solution, one that has only been tried for a couple of shifts at a time… try spezza and heatley seperate… Both of these guys have the skills to be superstars without the other… i think when they are together, rather than play a complete game, each assumes a limited role, spezza carry the puck up, pass, heatley shoot… maybe if you seperate them, you can get them out of their habits, and each will be better a player for it

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

If Hartsburg can make it work, he’ll be a hero, but every time they try to split that line up, it never works.
It obviously makes more sense to be on separate lines, you see that other teams who can separate their big guys always end up better, but they’ve tried this before with not too great results.
