Breaking The Tie

This question is bound to come up, so here is the answer…
TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURE
If two or more clubs are tied in points at the end of the regular season, the standing of the clubs in each Conference will be determined in the following order:
1. The greater number of games won.
2. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any “odd” games, shall be used to determine the standing.
3. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

I’m guessing that one is left over when there were odd number of games between division foes?

Basically rule 2 is saying that, if two clubs are tied, the head-to-head match-ups between the tied teams determines which team gets the higher spot.
The weird part is they describe the scenario where an odd number of games is played between two teams (a rarity)...if 7 games are played between tied teams A and B, 3 in city A and 4 in city B, then you get rid of the first game played in city B, and just take the head-to-head match-ups for the remaining 6 games to determine who gets the higher seed. It’s weird and seems like they could simplify it a bit, seeing as this rarely (if ever) happens any more.

4. If the goal differential is same for both clubs the team captains must then square off in a best of 7 thumb wrestling series. Elbows must be straight and wrists will be bound. No tag teams (using the pointer finger) will be allowed.
