Brendan Witt of the Islanders received 5 minutes for an elbow plus a 10 and game misconduct for the hit on Niklas Hagman of the Leafs.
Hagman did not return to the game which was won by Toronto 5-4 in a shootout.

I thought the flying elbow at Michalek was worse, but Witt definitely deserves a nice, fat, juicy suspension to go with that hit. What a chump. There’s no place for that in the game

Like I said over on my site.. Terrible elbow and it really messed Hagman up. I would like to see a 5+ game suspension

Guys like Pronger and Phaneuf do this all the time, no one cares and because its Witt everyone is up in arms. Give me a break!

JawsofLife, if you can find me a Youtube video of one Pronger hit like this this season, I’ll lower my anger level at Witt. He didn’t even try to take the body, it was a pure elbow to the head. I have no idea how that could ever be considered a “hockey play” and allowed in the game - by anyone.

This was one of the most disgustingly blatant elbow I have ever seen. I hope this guys gets 20 games. Unbelievable.

And JawsofLife people are always up in arms about Pronger and Phaneuf hits, but few are as bad this one.

Fans do get upset about Pronger and Phaneuf hits like this, but considering (in particular) Pronger’s history of extremely short suspensions for blows to the head, they have gotten tired of raising the same old arguments when they know exactly what the result will be: a game or two, and another statement about the importance of keeping your head up. Fans have given up on anything substantial happening to Pronger, I think.
They aren’t any less upset, just tired of the arbitray Wheel of Justice.

I sometimes try very hard to give SOME players the benefit of the doubt on plays like this (maybe it was an accident, maybe it just kinda’ “happened”)... but… Witt has no excuse at all on this one.
The league has to come down on him. Very hard. That was just foolish.
And for the record, I think Phaneuf and Pronger should both be suspended constantly for the garbage they do on the ice. I’ve taken sick delight in Phaneuf having the miserable season he’s having because of it…

Chara is a lot taller than bitch pronger is, and for some reason his elbow is rarely, if ever on anyones face, explain that ms pronger.
