Briere Is The Flyers MVP

Briere, now a bona fide Conn Smythe Trophy candidate as playoff MVP, had the first goal of the game and an assist on the winning goal in overtime by Claude Giroux. That score was created by the fact Briere was alert enough to recognize an awful Chicago line change had basically created a 5-on-3 advantage for the home team.
Briere was also in the Blackhawks crease causing headaches for netminder Antti Niemi on Philly’s second goal, one that wasn’t officially called a goal until replay review confirmed it. On a night when baseball was again given reason to believe it needs to consider expanding its video review system, hockey’s came through with flying colours.
For Briere, it’s a noteworthy turnaround when you consider he was a frustrated centre forced to play right wing all season and began the playoffs by getting only 12:18 of playing time in the post-season opener.
