Bring Back Wood Sticks

from Al Strachan at Fox Sports,
Once again this season, scoring is down in the National Hockey League.
There are many reasons, but one of the most important can be traced to the usual lack of foresight from the league’s head office.
Without the slightest thought or consideration, the league allowed composite sticks to be introduced, just as years ago, also without any thought or consideration; it allowed aluminum sticks to be introduced.

Strachan always has been a one-trick pony. Blame Bettman for everything. Had the NHL banned composite sticks, this column would read “Scoring would be up if the league showed the foresight to try something new.
Get a new act Strachan, you’re as fresh as day-old bread.

If wood sticks were that much better, wouldn’t players coming through the minors who are desperate to make the team use wood sticks? Why not let the market decide? Players kill for competitive advantages, and if wood sticks give them that, why aren’t they using it? It doesn’t make sense to ban composites...maybe teams (or junior teams more importantly) should encourage using wood sticks, but some players might benefit from having the option. This is a pretty shoddy piece of journalism as far as I can figure.

Time to start hoarding wood sticks if the trend holds true. I never got used to the composites and would like to at least have my $30 option.

This is SO going to be debunked by yours truly...it’s a load of crap by a person who doesn’t understand how composite sticks work, nor the innovations that have taken place in composite stick design since they were first introduced in 1993…
