Bruins Control Their Playoff Destiny

from the Boston Herald,

“The bottom line is if we want to be in the playoffs, it’s ours to lose,” said coach Claude Julien. “We’re in right now; it’s ours to lose.”

Assuming that 90 points would earn the final playoff spot, the Bruins would need seven more in their final eight games.

That’s hardly an insurmountable task. But for a team that has scored only 14 goals in the last 10 games, even three or four more wins could be hard to come by - especially with all the remaining games vs. teams still fighting for a playoff berth or an improved seed

Based on these comments by Julien, can someone PLEASE explain to me why he chose Chara, Kessel and Wideman against Montreal in the shootout Saturday night? Kessel is a no-brainer, but Chara and Wideman? When you know that Montreal has the likes of Kovalev, Koivu, Ryder, Kotstitsyn, etc, why would you place two defensemen in the first round of the shootout? Especially reading Julien’s comments reiterating that his team needs all the points they can get, if you know you needed that extra point, why not any of Kobasew, Sturm, Metropolit and/or Krejci instead???
