Bruins Don’t Plan On Being Active Tomorrow

from Fluto Shinzawa of Bruins Blog at the Boston Globe,

GM Peter Chiarelli has concluded a conference call regarding tomorrow’s opening of free agency. And as expected, given the club’s cap situation, Chiarelli said not to expect much movement today or tomorrow.

“We’re going to sit back,” Chiarelli said. “Unless there are certain players we like and we feel there are good fits for those players.”

Chiarelli said the Bruins will not sign any of their free agents, restricted or unrestricted, before tomorrow’s noon opening. P.J. Axelsson, Mark Recchi, Stephane Yelle, Manny Fernandez, Shane Hnidy, and Steve Montador will become UFAs. Phil Kessel, Matt Hunwick, and Byron Bitz will become RFAs.

* Chiarelli has said previously that he will match any offer sheets. But he tempered that statement today, hinting that he would not match any offer sheets he terms beyond reason.
