from Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe,
Something else has to happen, specifically along the blue line, if the Bruins are going to return to the playoffs next spring. Even with Dennis Wideman plugged back into the equation - and his pending arbitration case makes that a question - the defensive corps needs an upgrade or two, specifically to enhance the transition game, a body or two to deliver the ever-elusive first quick pass out of the zone.
continued and many NHL notes too…

I would love a Dman but it wasn’t possible. Campbell got $8M. Liles re-signed with Colorado. Rosival went back to NYR. And Hainsey got $5M...! There will be offensive Dmen available at the trade deadline if not earlier. It’s not a huge problem right now....As for making the playoff the Bruins are at least the 2nd best team in their division. Toronto stinks. Buffalo did nothing to improve. Ottawa lost key players. Montreal didn’t do anything either. Elsewhere the Rangers aren’t looking too good. Even Pittsburgh lost a few good players. Alot of top players in the East went West or left the NHL. The Bruins should definitely be a playoff team again baring major injuries.
