Bruins Up Against History

Claude Julien’s skaters are attempting to do what no Bruins team has done in 20 previous tries: come back to win a series after trailing, three games to one. Milt Schmidt’s Bruins couldn’t do it in 1947 against the Canadiens. Bobby Orr and Friends couldn’t do it against the Rangers in ‘73. Cam Neely and Ray Bourque couldn’t make it happen in ‘95 against the Devils.
So it’s up to Chara and Tim Thomas to boldly go where no Bruins have gone.
“From the time we fell behind, three games to one, our goal was to create Game 7,” said Julien (who enjoyed one of those Bill Belichick nights in which everything he touched turned to gold). “We’re there now. We need to decide what we’re going to do with it.”

The fact that they were once down 3-1 is irrelevant now. It could have been 2-2 at that point. It’s time for game 7, and that’s all that matters now…

I am so SICK of the derogatory comments made about fans of hockey in the south. We hear the same comments over and over again from the media in traditional hockey markets—that we’re rednecks, that we only like race cars and tobacco. And like I heard on ESPN Radio this morning, the only people that care about hockey are those who grew up with it. Too bad I’ve lived here ever since I was 5, don’t watch Nascar, have never smoked, and am the furthest thing from a redneck. Just because we live in a more southern part of the country to you doesn’t mean we’re any less attached to our hockey team.
Seriously, Shaughnessy, get your act together. Luke DeCock (here: http://blogs.newsobserver.com/decock/did-he-say-goober) said it best:
“You think we’re a bunch of uneducated, tobacco-chewing hicks? You’re wrong, and we’ve heard it all before anyway. The only ignorance and laziness you expose is your own.”
