The Boston Bruins shutout the Carolina Hurricanes 4-0. Chara was dominant on the ice tonight and the Canes could not match the desperation the B’s played with.
added 10:27pm, With the game well in hand, Bruins up 4-0 and about three minutes to go, Scott Walker of the Canes punches Aaron Ward of the Bruins.
Ward received 2 for roughing, Walker, 2 for instigating, 5 for fighting and a 10 minute misconduct.
added 10:57pm, Julien said in post-game presser that there is some fear Ward may have a broken orbital bone.

Ward always was kinda dumb. Or maybe he just looked that way.

Now there’s something I’d call suspension worthy.

That deserves a suspension and Walker shouldn’t play the rest of the season.
There is no excuse for that.

If Ward had the gloves off, I’d agree with the thought that Ward was being cocky and dumb.
He still had his gloves on though. Walker was ready to fight, Ward wasn’t. That was just a Jordin Tootoo-esque sucker punch by Walker. Suspend him 4 games.

Ward should be suspended for starting it, and Chara should be suspended for diving. Go Canes!!!1!!

Nice punch. And enough with the suspensions already! Has the league really conditioned all of us to want people to sit every time a player gets a boo boo? Walker’s a grownup, he knows he’ll have to line up next to Thornton or, more likely, Lucic next game. He’ll do it, and since he’s not a dirty player, it will be over with - cheapshot settled.
But since they do suspend by games inverse to NHL commercials starred in, he’ll get 3-4 and that sucks.
Hey Ward, don’t keep your head up. Not like that at least. Sheesh…

O.K. no more callers. We have a winner for for our most idiotic written response contest.
Hold the phone!!!! We have last minute contender.

Um, db, that was sarcasm. Thought I made it rather obvious....guess not....sorry.
Two real points:
* Losing Walker will hurt the Karcinogenic Kids, but not quite as much as the loss of Ward hurts the Bruins.
* Chara’s injury could be a major problem even though he kept playing....he was perceptably slower in the third, and the real damage would not have been evident until he removed his skate after the game.
Not feeling optimistic about game six from a Boston viewpoint.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen far too many comments similar to that which weren’t sarcastic. I can see why he made the error. Don’t take any offense.

For the record, my comment (which was also chortled at) was not sarcastic at all. And I do stand by it.

Fighting is one thing. Going up to a guy unawares and sucker punching him in the face is something different and cowardly.

Yes Boroque, Walker’s action was a cowardly one. And that is exactly why he should and will stand up to another who will do to him what he himself did to Ward. That is how this game has settled its own scores long before Colin Campbell came along. That was the point I was trying to get across - let it play out on the ice. Forget the broadcasters, forget the bloggers, and forget us anonymous commentators, because the players will settle it. They always have and they always will, no matter what the league does.
Walker will settle this score, as long as Gary and Colin let him.

if anyone wants to compare this to Carcillo, this 5 times worst than what he did but ward should be embrassed for himself for just standing there and dont defend himself.
if you’re going to throw punches at someone with gloves on then expect some guys to actually drop the gloves and throw back.

its now time for Colin Campbell to go. Very bad ruling that opens up the door to agresssion.

Someone must have delivered a bucket of stupid to Carolina’s dressing room at intermission. That was just dumb.
