Built Tough In Southern California

from Bill Dwyre of the LA Times,

Well, this week, we softy West Coasters showed ‘em….

Our Ducks were ready for more against those Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night at the Honda Center. Tuesday night, one of the Detroit guys, Tomas Holmstrom, skated past a bent-over James Wisniewski, who had just taken a puck to the lung, and unloaded an elbow to his head. Just for good measure, apparently.

Well, our Ducks kicked some butt the rest of the way, won the game and were still fighting the Red Wings after the game ended. Gloves and sticks littered the ice as fans filtered out.

Then, about five minutes into Thursday night’s game, Bobby Ryan found Detroit’s Marian Hossa lingering behind the Ducks’ net and lit him up. Hossa spent some time flat on his back and the Ducks’ Chris Pronger got a penalty. Go figure. That’s hockey.

All this makes us beach bums in the land of fruits and nuts proud. We get it.

more on the ‘toughness’ of SoCal, basketball included…

How many more times are we going to have to read about a ‘bent-over’ Wisniewski?  The video evidence is below, he was not bent-over, end of story.

Bill Dwyre…him DB seem to be appropriate initials.  Do you even watch the game?  Or are you just going off what people are texting you from inside the Ponda Center.

Terrible writer…embarassing even.

The Ducks and the Anaheim media seem to think that if they repeat this lie long enough, it will become the truth.

Thank you, Paul (exclamation point). Not only that, but Homer doesn’t look over his shoulder until after the elbow hits him.

But I’ll give Wizdoucheski a free pass on this one, he has every right to not remember what happened given he just took a puck to the lung and elbow pad to the nose.

Thank you Paul.

I am so sick of this.  “Bent Over” he was 2 feet behind Holmstrom, so when Homer tries to turn around he doesnt even notice he’s there.  Looks like an accident to me.  Even if its not let’s think of all the damage Homer takes on every single play.  Do all the Ducks fans think that Pronger is a really nice guy to Homer down there?

Over to the Bobby Ryan hit.  Not a bad hit.  The problem, if Bill Dwyre even watched the game, was that pronger had grabbed Hossa, HOLDING him as the second Duck, Ryan came in and clobbered him.  Hence why there is a penalty on Pronger not on Ryan who threw the hit.

I’m really unclear on how angry the Ducks fans are.

If you want to talk about Ducks getting bent over, just watch the game last night, Bill Dwyre…the Franossppulasaurus Rex line was doing that to them all night!

Since when did “tough” = “thuggish and stupid?”

Sorry to be the dissenting opinion, but reading much of the article, the tone is incredibly saracastic.  He goes from praising the play of the Ducks to calling gretzky a wimp to praising Man-Ram for stealing the spotlight away from A-Rod.

It starts off clumsily, but if you read the whole thing it’s pretty clear that he’s condemning the “toughness” of hockey and the fact that sports are no longer just about skill.

“In the land of plastic surgery, we can now claim plastic players. Manny comes to Beverly Hills and finds enhancement. Perfect.”

You guys aren’t really taking this article at face value, are you?

Who knew “getting tough” meant getting beat 6-3 on home ice?
