Burke On Schneider

Brian Burke was on Hockey This Morning on NHL Home Ice XM 204.

Burke discussed the Schneider situation.

Listen below or download the mp3.  Thanks to the boys at NHL Home Ice for the audio.

Note: I am having a few issues with the WMP audio player, so it may not show up for you below.  Again, you can always download the mp3 to listen to it.

I’m currently in a public computer lab and can’t listen to the audio, can anyone summarize what Burke said?

Thanks.

Basically, he said if he can’t move Schneider in the next day or two, then Schneider will come to training camp, and they’ll probably have to wait until someone loses a top d-man during the season before moving him

he said he’s declined 6-8 proposals, so under no circumstances will he go on re-entry waivers

Cap?  What is this cap of which you speak?

Burke tried to make it sound like he’ll get something for Schneider, which is kind of strange considering no other team would take him for nothing when he was waived. But Burke is Harvard Law, so semantically speaking, he can probably convince himself of anything. He will have to give up an asset (player/pick) plus Schneider, and/or take on another team’s unwanted salary. He can try to spin it any way he likes, but Burke will be eating crow on this one.

If the Ducks remain over the cap, what would happen? If I’m reading the CBA right, looks like it would at least be a fine ranging from one to five million bucks, plus the overage counts against next year’s cap. That doesn’t sound too awful, but further penalties could include any/all of: forfeiture of draft picks, forfeiture of games, suspension of responsible club employees. It’s at Little Gary’s discretion.

oh how ironic would it be if Burke would lose the Penner picks

As I read Shep’s post I was about to blurt out one of my loudest bwa-ha-has ever.  Then I got to this part:

It’s at Little Gary’s discretion.
