Cammalleri Price Keeps Rising

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
When the Flames acquired Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings, they understood there was a chance they might only keep him for one year, at which point he could leave as an unrestricted free agent (and with the dollars tied up in Kiprusoff, Iginla and Dion Phaneuf, there may not be a lot left over for Cammalleri).
It doesn’t mean they’ll trade him either.
The reality is this: If you’re a good team, and this year, Calgary is a good team, you don’t trade an important puzzle piece just because your chances of re-signing him next year may be negligible.

From what I saw of cammy in LA, he thought quite a bit of himself. No doubt he has potential to be good for years to come, but there is no way he is staying in Calgary unless he gets between 6-7mill per year (closer to the 7 figure). He’ll go with the highest bidder. The only place getting home discounts these days is Detroit.

Good article by Eric (as per usual). If Sutter/Keenan are willing to roll the dice on a young defenseman (either on the farm or prospects (Negrin or Aulie) as they have done with Adam Pardy this year, then they should wave goodbye to Adrian Aucoin and his $4 million salary. As well, Backlund may be ready to step into the forward ranks on a full time basis next season, meaning that a more expensive forward can depart.
Not going to be easy by any means, but maybe Cammy would be willing to take a “Calgary” discount. Interesting times ahead.
