Can The Wings Score Enough Goals?

from Craig Custance of the Sporting News,
The Detroit Red Wings didn’t make any splashy free-agent signings or major trades to replace guys like Marian Hossa and Jiri Hudler. And that’s meant with all due respect to new additions Todd Bertuzzi, Patrick Eaves and Jason Williams.
But expectations haven’t lowered in Detroit. The Red Wings expect another Stanley Cup contending team, despite the departing offense. Here’s how they can replace those lost goals:
1. More from Hank: Marian Hossa’s 40-goal season and a trip to the Stanley Cup finals overshadowed a quiet offensive season from Henrik Zetterberg.

Let me fix that…
1. Consult with Sidney Crosby before making any moves in training camp.
Sorry, but Custance set himself up for an endless repeat of those kinds of responses after his earlier post about the firing of Kelly.
3. The development of youth: ...Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm both showed in the playoffs they’re capable of producing at the NHL level
If Custance knew anything about the Wings (or hockey in general, for that matter), he’d know that Abbi will be in GR this year until there’s an injury that clears enough cap space to allow for his recall.
However, maybe by accident, he did get one thing right by quoting Tick Tock about the possibility of Eaves returning to the form he showed in his rookie season. Since the Wings have shown they’re the type of organization that can bring the best out of “discarded” players (like Cleary and Samuelsson), I wouldn’t bet against Eaves have his best season in four years (even if he spends half the season on the fourth line).

Damn. I wish I’d thought of that response. It’s much more to the point than what I originally posted.

To any team or fan that really thinks the Wings are on their way down, I have one word: BOHICA.

As an old guy, I actually had to look that up, monkey. But now that I have, I have to say I agree with you 100%.

Chief would know it immediately. Last year was all about STFU- this is the year of BOHICA. Awesome for us, because we know what’s coming and get to watch and laugh.

OTC, you’re 100% correct, you DON’T have to apologize.

As opposed to Pens fans, that’s what you have to love about Wings fans. Not only is there any charge for pointing folks in the right direction, they actually know which way the right direction is.

Um, that actually should read: “Not only is there never any charge for pointing folks in the right direction, they actually know which way the right direction is.”

One way the Red Wings will score more- Samuellson will not be there wasting offensive zone possessions with his stupid wide, early, flailing shots.

Actually, I am a Pens fan. I just don’t feel it necessary to bash other teams unnecessarily. I happily respond with troll-like glee to others trolling about, but generally prefer to stick to the argument. The Wings lacking offense, despite their losses, is a rather silly notion.
