Can You Blame Henrik

I would want to hang around too…

from TSN,

The NHL says it has reviewed the incident and, as far as the league is concerned, the case is closed.
“We were made aware of the situation right after the game in question,” NHL executive vice president Colin Campbell told TSN. “We investigated it, talked with the officials and both teams and we determined there were no grounds to pursue it any further. It’s a closed matter as far as we are concerned. We don’t have to respond to what’s in today’s newspapers because we’ve already responded to it.”...
Lundqvist told reporters on Wednesday before learning of the allegations that he prefers to remain in the crease to maintain concentration during breaks.

added 2:11pm, Raycroft gets it!

from David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail,

In the wake of the media storm that hit New York over Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist’s alleged slash on one of the New York Islanders’ Ice Girls, Andrew Raycroft made it clear his goal-crease is a much friendlier place.
“I tried to hug a few but I’ve never slashed any,” the Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender said of the seductively clad cuties who clean the ice during breaks in play at Nassau Coliseum.

I like how all the players on the bench stare at the girl’s butt as she shovels by the bench, hehehe.

Dom does the same thing, and he gets away with it.  He stands at the goal line so that the “ice girls” can’t mess up his work along the goal line.

It’s not about concentration—goalies scratch up the ice in their creases to both give themselves some traction and slow down pucks, and most of them mess it up all over again after the “ice girls” clear the snow.  Some goalies are more territorial than others.

I thought it was a league rule that the creases, bench and penalty areas have to be cleaned at all tv timeouts (and the first stoppage after 10:00 in overtime)?

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. There’s NO cheerleaders in Hockey!!! Ugh. Ice girls. Give me a break. I’ll take Al Sobotka over cheap gimmicks/ice girls any day.

Lundqvist always stays in the crease during TV timeouts.  If it is an NHL rule that he has to move, they should have started enforcing it last year, when he first came into this league.  This was his 4th game at the Coliseum this year, so why are the Islanders making a big deal of it now?  Also, there were no witnesses (fans, players, officials, or other Ice Girls) that saw any Ranger spit on one of the girls.  The game is played on frozen water…isn’t it possible someone might get wet?  As for the cursing, it was not directed at the “girls” (women, really…they’re all over 18 years old) so what’s the big deal?  The Islanders are just trying to turn attention away from the fact that they are about to miss the playoffs again.
