Can’t Watch The Game On Versus Because I Have Directv

I am sure I am missing out on one of the great, early season regular games, Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers.
Sure there are ways to get the game, but I want to watch it on my HDTV 55 inch Sony!!!
You too, let Versus, Directv and the NHL know how you feel.
Please keep the comments civil in nature.

Games should be played on the Ice NOT the corporate boardroom. I blame Comcast and Bettman. DirecTV has treated me well. This is the stupidest thing since the lockout--remember that? I’m still bitter. Come on boys, let’s fix this thing.

Just got back from dinner, my youngest boy turned 16 today…
Was looking forward to a nice slobberknocker tonight with Caps/Flyers…
And then I remembered.....

They both are INCREDIBLY overrated !!!!
I still fear Detroit a lot more than those 2 pretenders !!1

5-4 Caps VarLAmov yanked & Emery should be, Yep really worried about those 2 teams
Posted by Evilpens on 10/06/09 at 08:22 PM ET
That’s ok. I’m in a hotel which, of course, has no idea Versus exists.

Philthy won in OT 6-5

refs and league should be embarrassed for some of the calls tonight. disgraceful. majority of the first period was on special teams
Posted by FlyersFan on 10/06/09 at 08:52 PM ET
...disgraceful.
The bigger disgrace here is that the person that runs the BEST hockey site on the web and also writes a column for NHL.COM had no access to an NHL game tonight.
KK rules!!!!!!

I’ve had DirecTV for 10 years. Never had a problem with them until now. I blame DirecTV, Versus, Comcast, and the NHL.
All of that bickering and propaganda and it is us, the customer, that gets screwed.
BTW, Ted Leonsis has DirecTV. He owns the Caps and had to make alternate plans to watch them. Perhaps he watched online like many of us did.

Bettman has Directv too GK and I am sure he has a way to watch too.
I keep on thinking, this would never happen to MLB, NFL or NBA. Only in the NHL are fans treated as an after-thought.
Another thing that really bothers me is all the games broadcast on the Canadian networks are in HD, but we never get to see them on CI.
If the games are in HD, we should be able to see them in HD.

thats why they like to put ‘thank you fans!’ engraved on the ice. dont worry when the story comes out that 10 teams are up for sale we can start an new and better NHL.

thats up to in demand(cable companies) and directv to provide that service. it takes alot of bandwidth to show an hd event.
Posted by FlyersFan on 10/06/09 at 09:36 PM ET
FF, I know for a fact that bandwidth is not the issue here.

10 PP’s for Philly. Disgraceful officiating. Shame on BB for putting Schultz and Erskine back in for Pothier and Sloan they suck. Last 3 goals were on bad bounces.

All I know is, Direct TV has two weeks to clear it up or I’m dropping them. Problem Solved.
Posted by Performance Parts on 10/07/09 at 08:26 AM ET
Have had DirecTV for years have no plan on dropping them. I have Center Ice and if I miss a game on Versus so be it. Not the end of the world, usually Versus has games I don’t care about. If having Versus raises my cost than I am for leaving them off. Having lived in Florida for years I remember a time when there was almost zero hockey on TV and no scores in the morning paper. Today I have RSN, Center Ice, the NHL Network and a local team with beat writers. If people think not having Versus is bad, they should have been her 25 years ago.

Sorry Paul, but remember the NFL Network exclusive game rights fiasco from the past NFL year or two?

Paul, I totally feel your pain and I’m still worrying about the other 8 Wings games that I’m going to miss. Also very surprised about the lack of HD games for the Canadian teams - this is not making me very happy. I wish I could switch providers but DirecTV will still charge me $500 if I do so I’m stuck writing emails and calling them. I am really worried that this is not going to resolve and then the playoffs...I can’t even stomach the thought of missing playoff games.

No plan to drop DirecTV here either. Technology makes it possible to watch games in HD, but then Comcast prevents us from doing so. Dropping DTV to switch to Comcast does not solve the problem, it only strengthens the monopoly and puts Comcast even more in control of what you can and cannot watch.
