from Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province,
...Gillis was asked if there was any progress on a new contract for two-thirds of the Canucks’ first line—Daniel and Henrik Sedin—who are entering their final contract year before becoming unrestricted free agents.
Gillis said he’d started working on an extension already. “We hope to get it concluded in the not too distant future,” Gillis said. The Sedins’ agent, J.P. Barry, however, told The Province on Tuesday that there had been little progress on that front.
The new GM said he believes with the player moves he has made so far, he feels the Canucks are “a couple of pieces away from being a very competitive team.” He said he’s confident the Canucks can be a playoff team this season.
