Canucks Jersey Will Be Unveiled Soon

from the Vancouver Province,

It’s top secret.
The Vancouver Canucks will unveil their new jersey design Aug. 29, the first revamp since 1997, but because of iron-clad security surrounding the event and the fact suppliers, retailers and all other stakeholders have signed non-disclosure agreements to keep silent, we can’t tell you what it looks like.

I thought all the Canucks logos have been unremarkable.  Mostly too complicated and busy, no specific “image” to recognize.  What was that brown kinda rounded triangle thing anyway?

Makes you appreciate the simple genius of the classic Original 6 Logos...Canadien, Red Wing, Bruin and Black Hawk etc.  Instantly recognizeable, uncomplicated, timeless.

Here’s a question:  What is the difference between classic and boring?  Is it just a factor of how long a logo or other symbol has been around, and if it is old enough we become comfortable with its simplicity and call it classic, while if it is new we don’t think it has enough “pop” or “buzz” or “speed” or “edge” or whatever?

I love the classic logos, too, but I can’t help thinking that if someone tried to indroduce the Toronto or Montreal logos today, they would be shot down by a focus group or marketing firm as boring within nanoseconds.
