Canucks Trying To Keep Up

from Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,

While the Canucks were trading for Bernier and chasing Sundin, every other team in the Western Conference was also making significant changes. You can argue about the merit of a lot of those changes. But you can’t argue the West won’t be vastly different next season, which raises the question: Have the Canucks done enough to stay competitive?

Decide for yourself.

ANAHEIM

The Ducks’ big move was adding old pal Morrison, who’ll try to recreate the Andy McDonald role on the second line. They also had four of the first 43 picks in the amateur draft.

This guy could have and should have put more effort into this.  He did not even mention Nashville, and Detroit is mentioned in the caption to the photo.
Lazy work.

It’s even funnier when you consider the conclusion:

So add it all up, and this is what you get. Colorado might be in trouble; the jury’s out on Anaheim, Nashville and Calgary; and every other team in the West is a powerhouse which either improved or solidified its lineup or a good young team getting better.

The jury is so out in Nashville he didn’t bother to look at them I guess.

Also, for what it’s worth, his analysis neglects RFA signings across the board, current hold outs (like Sakic) and forgot to reference some big names like Rolston.

the jury’s out on Calgary? On what planet? With an MVP candidate, a Norris candidate, and a Vezina candidate, how can they not be considered a threat to win the Conference; Cammalleri and Bertuzzi are more Keenan players than Huselius and Tanguay, and once they dump Aucoin, they’ll be under the Cap. Add in last year’s first round pick Backlund, who might make the squad, and you have a formidable outfit in Calgary. Just don’t know why they dumped Goddard.

I don’t know, maybe the 7th and 8th place finishes the past two years with pretty much the same roster?

If you’re looking for Bertuzzi and Cammalleri to be difference makers, you’re in a world of hurt. And if you think any GM in the league (except Sutter?) would trade Tanguay and Huselius straight up for those two, I’d like some of what you’re smoking.
