Capitals/Flyers- An Early Season Game To Remember

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

The NHL might have financial issues in a few of its markets, but we once again were reminded just how far the game has come on the ice Tuesday night.

Anyone check out Philadelphia’s 6-5 overtime win over Washington? I needed a towel after that one … and I was sitting on the couch.

Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Mike Richards combined for seven goals in a thrill-a-minute affair that left your jaw open.

continued and watch the highlights of the game below…

added 9:00am, Anthony SanFilippo of In The Room reports Blair Betts suffered a dislocated shoulder and James van Riemsdyk go his “bell rung”.

Uh, no!  It was on Versus.

It was on Versus so I didn’t see it. Instead Direct TV put on the Leafs and Senators for free on my box.

This whole Versus/Direct TV battle is going to lead me to drop Direct TV. I missed the Rangers game Monday which really ticked me off.

Direct TV is offering the Center Ice Package for 113.00 bucks if you call and make a big deal about it. But the problem is they are not covering a lot of the games I’ve noticed.

That game was unbelievable. I was going to change over to the baseball playoff but couldn’t figure out what channel it was on. Of course you will never hear anyone knock baseball TV contract but they love to crap on Versus…......Monday’s Rags/Devs game was good as well. Versus has alot of great games sheduled this year but people will just crap on Versus anyway

Of course I didn’t see the game.  I’m in a hotel, and I think hotels are allergic to Versus.

As a penguin fan i was concerned about both of these teams going into the new season.  But seriously, i have a lot less conern with the caps and flyers now.  No team is going to win with goaltending like that.  No matter how many goals you can score, you need some goaltending and a litlle D.  Mike Green is not a d-man.  Pronger is a beast, but Emery looked bad last night.

I wanted to see this game so badly but the Versus thing ruined that for me.  I really wish DirecTV and Versus would work this out.  It is ruining my hockey season.

Baseball playoffs are on TBS, a basic cable station that just about every American household gets.  Contrast that to the NHL.  Even before the Direct TV dispute, Versus wasn’t a widely available network;  Comcast is the only service provider in my area that offers Versus in a package with less that 300 channels.  Also, the TBS baseball commentators actually know what the hell they are talking about, have cameramen that can follow the game and show highlights of the game in the intermissions instead of interviews with Sydney Crosby.
