Caps Coach Not A Pens Fan

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

I couldn’t resist asking Boudreau about watching the rival Pittsburgh Penguins raise Lord Stanley’s mug. Let’s just say he wasn’t cheering for Pittsburgh.

“The rivalry is pretty heated between the two teams, so normally you always want the team that beats you to win the Cup so you can say, ‘Hey, we did great. The only team that beat us was the team that won it all,’” Boudreau told ESPN.com. “But it was really a hard time cheering for them. Now that they’ve won, it’s definitely a motivating factor for me with the team. But I was still hoping for Detroit. I couldn’t bring myself to cheer for Pittsburgh. But since they won, I may as well use it.”

more plus a video of Ovechkin talking about being on the cover of NHL 2K10, the playoffs and the rivalry with the Penguins.

What is Mike Green mad about?  The fact that he will always be a regular season stud and a playoff dud?  His picture is listed next to the definition of “soft”.  And Ovechkin?  Maybe he’ll figure out it is a team game.

Sounds like sour grapes to me.  Caps took it to seven games but they are not on the same level as Pittsburgh let alone Detroit.  Please….

“Without a word of a lie, I had half a dozen guys [players] text me within 20 minutes of Game 7,” said Boudreau. “They were so mad. I talked to Alex [Ovechkin] and Mike [Green] last night and they couldn’t bring themselves to watch it because it was so upsetting for them.

Why should he be?  Would you be happy for the Caps if they won?  I wouldn’t be happy for the Ducks.  I wasn’t happy for the Penguins, I was (and still am) pissed off because the Red Wings lost.

Pens-Caps is a great rivalry.  It’s heated.  It’s ok for the teams to hate each other.  Ask a Michigan fan if they’re ever happy for Ohio State (and vice versa) or an Auburn fan if they’re ever happy for Alabama (and vice versa).  Rivalries are what make sports great… a little hate (as long as it doesn’t go too far) is fun because you can gloat if you come out on top.  Moq’s got the right idea!

Plus, you might note that Boudreau was *asked* how he felt.  He answered honestly.

Pittsburgh definitely deserved it, but I’m not happy for them.  Boudreau shouldn’t be either.

I appreciate Boudreua’s honesty. The Pens are the Caps number 1 nemesis, why would you be happy to have it rubbed in your face that you possibly blew a chance to get to the Cup Final and choked it away at home. If he were happy the Pens won I’d question his sanity.

Ovechkin does know its a team game. the rest of the team just cant keep up. if it wasnt for him that team of non-executing bro-tards would be on the bottom of the standings.

and why act like Pittsburgh is amazing? they did nothing impressive other than forecheck a team of wimps. the Oilers did the same thing to show that the Emperor Wears No Clothes after the lock out.

Pittsburgh’s system and roster outside of Mouth Breather and Disney Crosby is crap and completely beatable with two ounces of discipline. Detroit couldnt adjust and then you signed Brad Stuart - the game 7 “traitor” by giving the game away with terrible plays. haha

“want a free goal? theres room up the boards but im programmed to throw it up the middle so just wait there.” idiot.

Hudler, Samuelsson and Stuart need to be eliminated from the team. Holmstrom is toast too. Datsyuk might want to show up too and score some goals in the playoffs from now on.
